Oroville - Gus Mancuso's 1-out sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 8th inning scored Cleon Jones from third with what proved to be the winning run, as Oroville clinched the National League Pennant with a 3-2 win over Springfield.

Springfield - Gus Mancuso's 2-run double in the top of the 4th inning hi-lited a 3-run rally, and Oroville held on to edge Springfield 3-2. Toad Ramsey scattered 4 hits over his 8 innings, Dennis Eckersley got the save for the Padres. Oroville leads the NLCS 3-2.

Springfield - Johnny Mize hit a 2-run homerun off Frank Mountain in the 4th inning, and that was all Springfield needed to beat Oroville 2-0, and even up the NLCS at 2-2. Guy Hecker pitched a 6-hitter into the 9th, and Mike Marshall picked up his 4th save of the playoffs.

Springfield - Arky Vaughan had 3 hits, and pitcher Art Nehf had 3 RBIs, as Springfield beat Oroville 5-2. Boog Powell drove in both Padres' runs with a 2nd inning 2-run homerun. Oroville leads the NLCS 2-1.

Oroville - Toad Ramsey pitched a 4-hitter, and Dixie Walker's 3rd inning single scored Gene Demontreville with the game's only run, as Oroville blanked Springfield 1-0 in the opening game of their LCS series.

Mickey Mantle wins his 1st Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. He hit .483 with 13 RBI and slugged 1.034 in 29 at bats.

Seattle's centerfielder Mickey Mantle had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the National League Batter of the Month. Mantle helped his team with an average of .354 and 21 RBI in 99 at bats. Mickey is hitting .325 this year, with 193 hits in 594 at bats. He has driven in 112 runs, slugging .554.

Winner of this months National League Pitcher of the Month award is Oroville's William Bell. His record of 4-0 in 5 was among the leagues best this month. In 44.2 innings of work he allowed just 23 hits while striking out 12, compiling an ERA of just 0.60. William fired two shutouts! This season Bell compiled an ERA of 2.76, going 23-6 in 34 starts.

Framingham - Framingham scored 2 runs in the 8th and 9th innings to tie the game at 4-4, but, in the top of the 10th, pinch-hitters Paul Molitor and Pedro Guerrero both singled, setting the stage for Freddie Lindstrom's monster homerun to deep right-center, giving the Glen Wilton Evil Do'ers a 7-4 win over the Rug Rats. The Evil Do'ers are the 2003 American League Champions!

Framingham - With one out in the bottom of the 9th inning, Lou Gehrig hit a Bob Lee fastball high and deep into the seats down the left field line to give Framingham a 3-2 win over Glen Wilton, and sending the ALCS to a 7th game tomorrow.

Glen Wilton - Eddie Mathews, Clyde Sukeforth and Honus Wagner each had 3 hits in Framingham's 8-1 win over Glen Wilton. Mathews had a homerun and 2 RBIs, and Pee Wee Reese and pitcher Addie Joss each had 2 RBIs for the Rug Rats. Glen Wilton leads the ALCS 3-2.

Glen Wilton - Freddie Lindstrom had 4 hits, including the game winning, 2-out, single in the bottom of the 12th inning that gave Glen Wilton a 7-6 win over Framingham. Joe Medwick also had 4 hits for the Evil Do'ers. The win gives Glen Wilton a 2-1 lead in the ALCS.

It's the 1st time that the American League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Florida's pitcher Mordecai Brown. His ERA of just 0.72 helped him to a 2-0 record in September. He worked 25 innings, striking out 12 hitters while walking 7. Mordecai pitched a shutout as well. His ERA is 2.14, his record 16-5.
